Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8
Dear All
It is difficult to know how to start this week’s letter. The death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has come as a shock to our nation and no doubt her family. Her Majesty was inspirational as she led her life of service and devotion to the nation and commonwealth, her family and her Lord. She was of course a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother and aunt and she will be mourned by all who loved her. She was also a great woman of faith and lived in the hope found in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ – it is this hope which gave her and us the assurance of where she and we will go to be with our Father in heaven when we leave this world.
With so much change though, both in the Sovereign and Prime Minister, we can rest assured that although change is around us, as Hebrews 8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”. Let us hold on to the assurance that our faithful Lord will see us through all the change that surrounds us, He will provide comfort to those who mourn and hope of an eternal life with Him.
Harvest
Our Harvest thanksgiving service will be a family Café Church service on 25th September. Our gifts this year will go to the Colchester Foodbank – a shopping list is on the reverse of this letter or if you would prefer to give a financial donation please place this in an envelope marked “Foodbank” in the tithe box, pay through the bank into the church account marking the donation “foodbank” or use the Sum-up machine for contactless payment.
Following the service, we will share lunch together. We will be serving a Ploughman’s style lunch followed by fruit crumble/pie with ice cream/custard. Everyone is invited to join us for this meal. We will need some help to prepare the meal – please contact Andrea if you can help with this. We will be asking for donations to cover the cost of the Ploughman’s lunch. We would also like to invite those who are able to make a fruit pie or crumble to bring and share. There is a sign-up sheet in the foyer – please sign up by next Sunday (18th September).
Sunday evenings in September
On Sunday evening we will continue with the Jon Tyson teaching sessions starting at 7pm.
Lunch in aid of Macmillan and St Helena Hospice
Andrea writes “A date for your diary – Friday 30th September. You are welcome to a Ploughman’s lunch at our home 6 Prettygate Road at 12.30. There will also be a table top sale, all proceeds will be divided between National Macmillan and St Helena Hospice. It would be helpful to have some idea of numbers. Look forward to seeing you support these worthwhile causes.”
There will be the normal Zoom prayer meetings on Wednesday and Saturday this week, both at 9.30pm.
With love and blessings.
