Letter from the Manse
October 2026
An outward looking church
Greetings from us three in the name of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We praise
God for the calling to be part of the family of God at Plume. We also want to praise
God for the support we receive from the congregation of God and the privilege to
support the congregation.
I felt God had laid upon my heart to talk about “an outward-looking church”, which I mean: “a gathered or called out people who try hard to be of service to the other
person not just themselves”. This group of “called out” people called “church” are
interested is serving each other and the people outside their “gathered or called out group”. Jesus teaches us the importance of serving one another when He said, “But she/ he that is greatest among you shall be your servant” Matthew 24:11. An outward-looking church always seeks to join in where God is working and seeks opportunities to serve others and not to be served. It is important to know that God calls us to serve just as we are, and there is no service more important than the other.
My desire is for us to look around for opportunities where we can serve the people in our communities as a church or as members of the Church. An “outward-looking church” seeks to serve so that God may be honoured through their service and not focusing on what they can get out of their services that they render. Our goal when we serve should be for the Glory of our God and Master. What should drive our mission is our Love for God and our desire to see the Kingdom of God growing.
An outward-looking Church looks to God to empower them as they serve Him and to provide the resources for the work to continue. Let us continue to ask God to open our eyes and see how gifted we are and resourced (2 Kings 6:17-20) and for us to be able to see the needs around us that God is calling us to respond to. I pray that we will have our ears opened so that we can hear where God is making noises and we can join in and be part of God’s team.
Blessings to you and your families and those close to you in the name of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Andrew
