And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. -Eph 6:18
Greetings from the Manse,
I hope you have had a good week and that you see some light in the days ahead.
I have been taking part in some research over the last few weeks. The research is about exploring what helps me to pray and meet with God. Each week I’ve been asked to try out a different style of prayer and to make notes on it. The styles have involved prayer walking, Christian Mindfulness, Ignatian Spirituality and some other ways to pray. Whilst exploring these ways it made me think that we are all wired differently and what ‘works’ for one of us may not for someone else. The important thing I believe is that we ask Christ to guide our prayers and to speak to us. The disciples in Luke Chapter 11 approached Jesus and said ‘Lord, teach us to pray’.
With this in mind I want to urge you this week to pray. Maybe try out some new ways to pray and discover what works but remember to ask Christ to teach you. If you want ideas of what to pray for maybe begin with just being thankful to God, then think about those closest to you and lift them to God. Think about a situation in the world that stirs your heart and bring it God. Finally, I’d like to ask you to pray for Plume Avenue Church. Pray that we may continue to faithfully preach the gospel and live it out day by day. Pray for those who are preparing the profile for the new minister and for the church as they seek to discern who will be called to lead into the future.
I’d like to offer a big thank you to all those who have responded to help with the distribution of Mother’s Day flowers next week. If you are available to help on Saturday please do email
admin@plumeavenuechurch.org.uk and let us know your availability.
This week is home group week and the groups will meet on Tuesday evening at 7.30pm and on Thursday lunchtime at 12.30pm. Zoom details will be sent round later in the week. Please do join in they are a great time of fellowship, prayer and transformation.
Have a great week.
Bless you,
Geoff Felton.
