I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship.
Romans 12:1
Dear Friends,
I love photography.
I love taking pictures of people, places, objects and then processing the images into a final picture that hopefully tells some kind of story or makes me ask questions. There is something about the play of light and recording it for posterity that intrigues me.
I often wish I had more spare time to devote to my hobby. Capturing images, processing them and then finally producing a print can be a time consuming process that distracts me from chores that need doing, conversations that need to be had and work that needs to be done.
I wonder what you like to do in your spare time? Painting, walking, running, rock climbing, paint balling, gaming, speedway riding who knows! I’d love to find out, please do let me know what your passion is.
You may think all this is a rather strange introduction to the Ministers letter for this edition of our magazine but it does tie in with the bible verse above.
Sometimes we can think our faith is something that we do in our spare time, a little bit like photography or hang gliding! Something that fits in around the rest of our life when we have time for it.
The above Bible verse tells us that our whole lives are to be devoted to God as an act of worship.
I wonder what that looks like for each of us? What would it look like for you to dedicate your work to God, your hobbies, your spare time as well as the rest of your time?
As I take photos I ask myself ‘how can this passion of mine reflect more of my faith in the images I take’? and to be honest I haven’t yet discovered the answer but I’m working on it and when I find it I will be sure to let you know.
Over this summer let’s remind ourselves that faith is not a spare time hobby but a total commitment to the God who is totally committed to us.
Have a great summer.
Love and Blessings,
Geoff.
