Mary

Mary
December 29, 2018 by Steve Dale

Luke 1:39 At this time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea

In Luke 1:46 – 55, Mary sings her song of worship which we now call The Magnificat and the words she uses is from the Psalms. And so it is in the poem that follows, that I have imagined Mary again expressing her deepest thoughts and emotions using the words of King David which she would have learned as part of her education.

Who stirs me from sleep? Who are you my Lord that wakes me with singing? I will permit no sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob. Once, there were rumours you rested in Bethlehem – Then, you were to be found in a city of trees. Arise my Lord and find your resting place; You and the ark of your glorious strength! Like an olive shoot this descendant of David Will inherit his throne and rule there forever – His kingdom will never end.

My heart is not proud, my eyes are not haughty; listen to me Lord when I cry out for mercy. You, who knows my heart as clearly as the life we now share? My world is turned upside down! Where must your servant go to find peace? I lift my eyes up to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. I will search for the lamp established for His anointed one; I will find the word from God, which can never fail! Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff will comfort me.
