Liz’s Letter 10/03/2024
March 10, 2024 by Liz Bird

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 107:1

Dear All,

Hope you have had a good week. This Sunday we will be celebrating Mothering Sunday – we do hope you will be able to join us.

Holiday Club Planning
Rachael writes: “We will be having an initial meeting for those who are interested in being involved in a holiday club this year on Tuesday 12th March at 7.30pm at the church. It would be great to see as many of you there as possible. If you are unable to attend, but would like to be involved, please let me know. Thank you, Rachael Coombes (coombesrachael@gmail.com)”

Baptisms
Our service on Easter Sunday morning will include some baptisms. If you are interested in baptism please do come and speak to me.

Pat Dewsbury
We continue to remember Pat’s family in our prayers. There will be a service of thanksgiving for Pat’s life in St James Church, Nayland on 22nd March 2024 at 11am. Angela, Deborah and JD would be so pleased to see as many as can make it to the service. The service will be followed by a private family burial. If you would like more details or to share cars please speak to Andrea or me. It would be helpful for the family to know how many may be attending.

Maundy Thursday
On the evening of Maundy Thursday (28th March) we will be having a family meal together starting at 6.30 pm. The menu will be the same as last year as this seemed to be very popular: Lasagne, salad and garlic bread followed by dessert. During the meal we will remember the events of the last supper Jesus shared with the disciples and we will share in Communion.
To help with the catering we would be grateful if you would sign up in the foyer. We are asking if people are able to provide a lasagne, either meat or vegetable, which can be heated up on the day. If you can please tick the appropriate box and say how many your lasagne will serve. We will also need folk to help set up and clear away.
The evening is always a very special time to gather together for all ages so we do hope you will be able to join us.

Prayer before our Sunday services
Prior to Covid, we used to gather together for prayer in the front room. We would like to restart this. At the moment there isn’t a room suitable to gather in so we will meet around the alcove music area. If you would like to join the service leader and worship group for prayer at 9.45 am please do – everyone is very welcome to join us.

Drop-in update
It was a pleasure to welcome two local councillors to the Drop-in this week, who were keen to see all that we’re doing. They appreciate the value we’re already bringing to the local community and the opportunities to support more young people as we grow. They are keen to see this growth continue as a valuable community resource and are keen to support it where possible.
When one of the new young people was asked what they think of the Drop-in, they said ‘oh, I love it’. Another young person said that the chaplaincy link was important, and that ‘we’re here because we know Joe from school’.

Elections
Our church will be used as a polling station again on 2 May 2024.
The council have asked us to advertise that there are opportunities to work for Colchester at the elections. The link to the staff availability survey is below and new staff are encouraged to use this. There is also a link with further information about working at elections.
If you are interested in working at the elections, please complete the availability survey: https://www.colchester.gov.uk/election-staff-availability/

This week
This week, there will be prayer meetings on Wednesday and Saturday mornings at 9.30 am.

With love and blessings.
