“Thy Kingdom”, we pray.
Greetings from the manse in the name of our soon coming King and Lord Jesus Christ. I find it a joy to work amongst and alongside God’s chosen people.
When we pray “Thy Kingdom come”, we are asking for the Kingdom of God to be a reality in our lives, church, community and world including all creation. We would be asking for God through us, who have been made heirs and core-heirs of the Kingdom through Jesus, to make the principles of God a reality for humanity and creation.
The principles of God require us to see the image of God in God’s people who are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14) in the image of God. We are called to reflect this principle as we interact with other people. Mutual respect of all peoples is part of the call for the Kingdom to come. God called us to the business of loving people, but we are not called to love and tolerate evil behaviour but to love people.
When we pray for the kingdom to come, we are asking for justice for all peoples not just a few but for all to enjoy what God has blessed creation with. Social justice for all peoples is part of our calling. We should be comfortable to “turning the tables upside down” when we see injustice around. We are called to call out injustice where ever we see it in our communities.
The Kingdom of God is “… is of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17). We are called out to live a “Holy life” set apart for God, for holy use, as our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit, (1 Corinthians 6:16). We are reminded that we belong to God. We are called to work out our salvation with trembling and fear (Philippians 2:12), meaning we should work hard to live and reflect a holy life as a holy people through Christ Jesus who dwells in us through the power of the Holy Spirit.
You and me have a role to play in the coming of the Kingdom of God as the light and salt of the world. Let us pray and do everything to make the Kingdom of God a reality as we eagerly wait for it to be a full reality when Jesus comes again a ruler and King.
