Here at Plume Avenue Church, we are passionate about worshipping God and helping others discover the joy of new life through a relationship with Jesus Christ. Our Mission Statement is ‘to know Jesus and make Him known’ and it emphasises the centrality of Jesus in all we do. Whether you are young or old we believe a full life is to be found through Him.
We’d love to welcome you to one of our Sunday services, one of the many home groups that meet regularly during the year or to any of our activities and groups. If you have questions and are searching we hope you will feel Plume is a place that can encourage you on your journey.

Plume Avenue Church is part of the United Reformed Church. We are also affiliated with the Evangelical Alliance and are a New Wine Network church. We work closely with other local churches in Prettygate and Colchester and have links with churches across the globe with close links to churches in Kenya.
Our heart is for compassion and justice for all. We support and are involved with Colchester Foodbank, Beacon House, Colchester Soup Run, Christians Against Poverty, Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal and International Justice Mission.
You can read more about our Vision here.
Plume Avenue Church values each person. Pastoral care is provided by many, in different ways. It often occurs within friendships or existing small groups. We also have a Pastoral Care Team working alongside the Minister and the Elders.
The team aims to offer emotional, spiritual and practical support to all in the good and difficult times. The team may pray with people or just offer a listening ear where needed. Meals are provided for families with new babies or for others needing help due to home situations or circumstances. We also bless people with the flowers which have been in Church on a Sunday.
Everyone is welcome to our services and if you are unfamiliar with church services we have a cafe-style church, the ‘Venue’ (see below).
Our normal Sunday Services are at 10:00 am and 6:30 pm, except the second Sunday when the ‘Venue’ replaces our evening service. We have a crèche and groups for children and young people each Sunday morning.
The church runs various activities on its premises as well as its regular services. These include:
- Prayer Meetings
- Youth Group
- Girls’ Brigade
- Low-impact exercise classes
- Events – including concerts, men’s’ prayer breakfasts & women’s’ prayer breakfasts
- Courses – these include membership courses, Alpha and Start Courses
- Homegroups – take place at various times and locations
The Venue – Café Church at Plume Avenue (Usually 2nd Sunday of the month)
3:30pm – 5:15pm
The Venue is a well-established community that represents all ages and abilities. It provides a new way of being church, offering an opportunity to explore the Christian faith, make new friends and relax. We regularly welcome 100 people to each Venue.
Our café is open throughout serving hot and cold drinks, cakes and biscuits. Monthly activities typically include craft, team games, discussion groups, Wii corner, and group or individual challenges. Activities generally follow a theme. Some visitors take part, others read the paper or talk with friends. The afternoon concludes with a short thought relating to the theme.
At The Venue, prayer is available for those who ask. There is no charge, all refreshments and craft materials are free!
Venue Hub started in the Autumn of 2016. It runs every Monday in term time from 1:00 pm – 2:45 pm. It welcomes everyone including pre-school children. The Hub provides an opportunity to catch up with and make new friends and a time to discuss a theme or passage from the Bible. Cakes, coffee and tea are provided.
Alpha @ The Hub
Starting on Monday, September 18th from 12:45 pm – 2:45 pm we will be running the Alpha course. We will start with a light lunch followed by a short DVD presentation and time for questions and discussion. All welcome.
We run a holiday club each summer for primary school aged children. This is a wonderful time for children to learn about Jesus through songs, drama, dance, crafts and small groups.
During the year we have lunches, quizzes and almost everything revolves around food! We also screen some of the large sporting activities such as the Olympics and big national events on our large screen.
MinisterGeoff is married to Sarah and they have three sons.
